Austin has a vibrant night life, the entertainment options for the downtown area of the city can be divided up into 6 distinct areas each with their own unique feel. Here is a quick peek at these areas. Be sure to check out the map for a visual indicator of where these areas are, and to get a general sense of how spread out they are.

6th St.  (Dirty 6th): This area6th Street serves as an ambassador to Austin. This area serves as a default location to visit for those looking for something to do. The streets are blocked off at night as bar patrons, dancers, travelers, buskers, and passersby flood take over.

The challenge is to navigate the throngs of people and allow yourself the ability to explore multiple locations.  Explore this space early to get a fill for the features and focus of the venues available.

Warehouse District: The warehouse district  gets its name from its venues being housed in converted warehouses. It is a bit pricier than dirty 6th street, but it also has a more grown up aesthetic to it.

East 6th: This area is more spread out than all the others, driving or biking between venues is recommended as walking will take quite a while. Home to local favorites such as White Horse, Pine Street Station, and The Scoot inn, this area has a good selection of music venues with their own flavor.

West 6th:  This area is recommended for those looking for more of a lounge based experienced, and caters to a crowd that craves a more upscale experience.

Red River/7th:  Breaking off from Dirty 6th this area is home to many music venues. The  lineup of music venues includes Stubbs and Empire control room as its heavy hitters for touring acts.

Rainey StreRainey Streetet: Compared to Dirty 6th street, this area has a much more adult feel to it. Outdoor patios, craft beers, and smaller venues help highlight the differences between the two.

Rainey street has a diverse selection of venues many of whom encourage the presence of mans best friend. Rainey street furthers the notion that Austin is a dog friendly city. Their outdoor seating and fenced off areas welcome canine companions to join in the festivities.
Rainey street features smaller venues and a more hip feel than is present on dirty 6th street.
